Persevere After Joy

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,  because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.  Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.  If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.  But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.  That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.  Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.

James 1:2-8

When you are going through trials and tests, do you finish strong?

When we are initially faced with a difficulty. we may dig in and commit to working and praying our way through it.  However, when the problem lingers on and on, and even gets worse, do we start getting tired, even exhausted and just want to give up?

God gives us free will, so at any time, on any journey, we always have choices.  Giving up, packing up and going home are always before us as options. Even if our choices are limited, we always have a choice about how to frame a situation and how we will view it.

The next hour, day or minute of effort might send us the victory we’ve been seeking with the spiritual joy that comes with it.  But we will never know that moment if we give up.

When you are in those weak moments, tell God that you staying the course that He’s got you on because you want the joy.  You are starving for the joy.  The joy is you guiding star.  Not “winning” in the world’s sense of the world, but triumphing over forces that seek to discourage, distract or even destroy you.

Don’t miss the joy that gets flooded into your spirit when you persevere.

Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy
set before him endured the cross…Hebrews 12:2.

All the Best in 2013!

Julie
